Ande is a Paraguayan state power company engaged in the generation, transmission and distribution of electric power. It operates three hydroelectric plants: binational Itapú, with a total power of 14,000MW, of which 7,000MW are transmitted to Paraguay, is operated with Brazil; Yacyretá, an Argentine Paraguayan joint venture, has a maximum power output of 3,200MW, of which half goes to Paraguay; and the 200MW Acaray hydro plant. In addition, Ande has six thermoelectric power plants. Its transmission system consists of seven 220kV lines totaling over 2,700km. The company distributes power throughout the country. Ande, the country's electric monopoly, employs more than 4,000 workers.
