Aseguradora Suiza Salvadoreña (Asesuisa) is the biggest life and non-life insurer in El Salvador. Founded in 1954, the firm was controlled by local financial holding Banagricola from 2001 to 2007, when the group was acquired by Colombia's largest bank, Bancolombia. In 2012, the lender sold its stake in Asesuisa to Grupo de Inversiones Suramericana, in a transaction that also included its life insurance unit, Asesuisa Vida.
