Astaldi El Salvador, a subsidiary of Italy's Astaldi, is a Salvadoran construction firm that began operations during the second half of the 1990s with a series of roadworks, including upgrading the Zacatecoluca-San Marcos-Usulután highway (55km), the San Miguel-Goascoran highway (53km) and a 35km section of the Panamericana highway. In 2008, the company signed a contract for the design and construction of a new 65.7MW hydro plant, the Chaparral hydro project in the Torola river valley. In 2012, state power company CEL announced it reached an agreement with Astaldi to terminate the contract. Astaldi El Salvador is based in San Salvador, El Salvador.
