Mexican bank Banco del Bajío (BanBajío) was created in 1994 and operates 255 branches in the northern, western and central regions of Mexico. Banco del Bajío has traditionally focused on commercial lending to agriculture and industry and in recent years has diversified into high-growth segments like mortgage and consumer loans. Its largest institutional shareholder is Spain's fourth largest bank Banco Sabadell with a 20% stake. Salvador Oñate Ascencio, a prominent Mexican businessman, is the bank's founder and largest individual shareholder and holds a 24.8% stake in the company. BanBanjío is headquartered in León in the Mexican state of Guanajuato.
