Ecuadoran state-owned bank Banco del Estado, formerly known as Banco de Desarrollo del Ecuador, is the country's main agency for financing public works projects. The bank focuses on financing studies, programs, projects, public works and services that promote development, such as the rehabilitation and improvement of roads in Los Rios province, the construction of bridges in the same province, the implementation of the Cayambe-Tabacundo irrigation project, as well as other initiatives to improve coverage of potable water and sewerage in the country. In 2015, for example, five municipalities in the Andean region signed a US$47.6mn loan agreement to fund construction of the Pesillo-Imbabura project, which will supply potable water to 162 rural communities and five urban centers.
