Brazil's federal utility holding company Eletrobrás funds projects and owns power generation, transmission, distribution and marketing assets throughout the country. The company owns 53,706km of transmission lines of 230kV and an installed capacity of over 42,000MW considering its 33 hydro, 124 thermal and 2 nuclear plants, including Tucuruí (8,535MW), Itaipú Binacional (14,000MW in total) which operates the Itaipú hydroelectric dam on the Brazil-Paraguay border, Paulo Alfonso and Moxotó (4,280 MW), Xingó (3.162 MW), Angra 1 and Angra 2 nuclear power plants (1,990MW), Sierra da Mesa (1,275MW), Fumas (1,216MW) and Sobradinho (1,050MW). Eletrobras is controlled by Brazil's federal government.
