State-run utility Chesf is engaged in the generation and transmission of electric power in 9 northeastern states. The company operates 14 hydro power plants and a thermal plant with a total installed generation capacity of 10,615MW. It also owns an 18,500 km transmission network, 99 sub-stations, and 755 transformers with a transformation capacity of 43,659MVA. Chesf is controlled by state power holding company Eletrobrás. It is based in Recife in the Brazilian state of Pernambuco.
