Founded in 2007, Nicaragua's state-owned electric power transmission company Enatrel has a network of over 2,000km of high transmission lines and 79 substations. Enatrel is also engaged in the maintenance and management of the SIN grid, and the administration of the national electricity market. It also promotes and develops projects to improve the current system, such as the implementation of a 21km link between substations San Benito and Masaya and a 43km connection between substations Los Brasiles and Masaya, in Managua and Masaya departments, and the construction of a 41km 138kV transmission line to connect substations San Ramón and Matiguás, a project that benefits users in Matagalpa department and the North Atlantic autonomous region.
