Brazilian distributor EDP Escelsa, a wholly-owned subsidiary of local power company EDP Energias do Brasil, provides electricity to 70 municipalities in Brazil's Espírito Santo state. The company's concession area covers 41,241km2 or 90% of the state, serving more than 1.29mn clients. Escelsa generates some of its own power at six plants but it mostly resells energy from federal power company Eletrobras Furnas and bi-national power generator Itaipu. The company was founded in 1996 and is headquartered in Vitoria, Brazil.
