Chilean concessionaire Sacyr Concesiones Chile, a unit of Spanish firm Sacyr, operates as an infrastructure construction company and a highway operator in the country. In this area, it holds a 60% stake in the Valles del Desierto concession, which operates the Vallenar-Caldera stretch of Chile's main north-south highway, Ruta 5. This tranche was awarded in 2008 for a 35-year period. Among its projects in the country, the firm is in charge of the construction of the 187km La Serena-Vallenar highway, a project that will improve road connections between the regions of Atacama and Coquimbo. Sacyr Concesiones Chile is also involved in the construction, maintenance and operation of a 103km highway connecting Concepción and Cabrero, in Biobío region (VIII); a 86km highway between La Serena and Ovalle, in Coquimbo region (IV); and a 78.4km stretch of access roads in Iquique, in northern Tarapacá region (I). In 2014, the firm and OHL Concesiones were selected to build the Américo Vespucio Oriente (AVO) expressway in Santiago, a 9.3km underground highway that will pass through the municipalities of La Reina, Las Condes, Vitacura, Recoleta and Huechuraba.
