Chilean state copper producer Codelco's Andina division is located in central region V. Codelco is currently developing the phase II expansion project which aims to increase Andina's throughput capacity from the current 94,000t/d to 244,000t/d through the construction of a new concentrator with capacity to process 150,000t/d of ore. The project is expected to add 350,000t/y of fine copper to the division's production, for a total of 600,000t/y during the first 30 years following completion. Operations are expected to start at end-2018, when Andina is set to become the company's largest division. After completing the phase I expansion project, costing US$1.2bn, the division increased output from 230,000t/y to 300,000t/y.
