Minera Gaby S.A. is a fully owned subsidiary of state copper producer Codelco. It operates Codelco's most recent operating mine, the 150,000t/y Gaby copper cathode mine in region II. Commissioned in May 2008, Gaby - also known as Gabriela Mistral - is the first mine Codelco has built from the ground up since having commissioned the Radomiro Tomic cathode operation in 1995. Gaby's mine plan contemplates extracting 584Mt of ore grading 0.41% copper over 15 years. In 2013, Codelco inaugurated the world's largest thermosolar plant, Pampa Elvira Solar, which will serve the company's Gabriela Mistral division, by providing 85% of the power need for the division's SX-EW copper plant and reducing the mine's CO2 emissions by 15,000t/y.
