Description:

Diversified mining company, with iron ore, bauxite-alumina, transport (rail and shipping) and, increasingly, hydro-generation as core activities. It is the world's largest iron ore and pellets producer and exporter. It also mines or produces manganese, ferroalloys, aluminum, gold, kaolin, potash, fertilizers and most recently copper. Its transport activities include rail, ports and shipping. In September 2008, the miner acquired stakes from oil majors Shell and Repsol YPF in blocks in the Espírito Santo and Santos basins, respectively.
