Description:

Petróleo Brasileiro engages in the exploration of oil and gas, as well as the production, refining, purchase and transportation of crude oil products, its derivatives and energy. The company has found combined proven reserves (SPE) of 15,010 million barrels of oil equivalent. It closed 2007 with a production of 2.3 million barrels of oil equivalent. The company has 109 production platforms - 77 fixed and 32 floating - and 15 refineries with an installed capacity of 2.2 million barrels a day. It maintains as many as 5,973 service stations throughout Brazilian territory and 990 more abroad. Its subsidiary Petrobras Distribuidora is the retail segment in Brazil for petroleum products and alcohol fuels. Petrobras Internacional operates the company's exploration, production and worldwide marketing services. Other products offered include petrochemical, natural gas and energy. Petrobras, created in 1953, is government owned.
