Printer-friendly version Mexican congressman Silvano Aureoles is proposing decentralizing the administration of the country's water resources, currently the responsibility of national water authority Conagua, paper El Semanario reported.
Aureoles said the national water law and the public administration law must be modified prior to restructuring and revising Conagua's functions.
According to the congressman, federal government initiatives pertaining to the water sector are "severely limited" because Conagua has too much control over decisions related to the administration of resources.
He also warned that not decentralizing the management of the country's water resources in the short-term will result in serious problems, as distributing water will become increasingly complicated.
