Printer-friendly version Colombia's President Álvaro Uribe has laid out specific measures to save energy and water as a way to combat power shortages caused by the drought in the country, the presidential website reported.
The mandate outlines ways to save water, especially when watering gardens, washing vehicles and public spaces. Energy savings include switching off lights after 8pm in public buildings.
Other measures include switching off lights in spaces not used continuously, such as boardrooms and bathrooms, and turning on lights in homes only when natural light is not sufficient.
Uribe asked both governors and mayors to promote the measures in their jurisdictions.
Colombia's mines and energy ministry announced on September 30 that it had implemented a natural gas rationing program due to supply disruptions and increased demand from thermo generators because of the reduced hydro capacity.
