Instituto del Fondo Nacional de la Vivienda para los Trabajadores (Infonavit) is a quasi-governmental entity created in 1972 to bolster home ownership in Mexico. Its operations are funded through a mandatory contribution by all private employers equal to 5% of each employee's salary. The contributions make up a national housing fund, used by Infonavit to grant mortgage loans. It operates solely for private sector employees, all of whom have an individual account at Infonavit. Infonavit is based in Mexico City, Mexico.
