Sumitomo Mitsui Financial Group (SMFG) is a Japanese holding company which has interests in a number of financial-sector firms and controls the Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation, the country's second largest bank in terms of assets. Together with its subsidiaries, SMFG offers a wide range of banking services in areas including commercial banking, leasing, wealth management, securities and consumer finance. SMFG also participates in operations to raise funds for project financing, as well as providing loans and loan commitments for projects in the areas of electric power generation, transportation, and natural resources, among others. SMFG was founded in 2002 and is based in Tokyo. Sumitomo Mitsui Finance and Leasing (SMFL), SMBC Nikko, SMBC Friend Securities, Sumitomo Mitsui Card Company Limited, Cedyna, SMBC Consumer Finance, and The Japan Research Institute are also part of the group.
