Bechtel Chile Ltda., the local unit of the US engineering and construction company, offers services to clients for the development, engineering, construction and administration of projects and installations. Bechtel has worked on various projects, from ducts and mining installations to drinking water treatment works and hydroelectric projects. It designs and constructs installations for power generation and transmission, chemical products, mining and metals, surface transportation, the aerospace industry, telecom and water and waste management. Its current projects in the country include the engineering, procurement and construction of the second desalination plant at Coloso, Chile, which is designed to ensure a reliable, sustainable supply of water for two copper concentrators at the Escondida mine, and replacing the Los Colorados concentrator at the mine with a new concentrator at Laguna Seca to produce copper as well as gold and silver. Decommissioning and demolishing the old plant and building the new one will provide access to higher-grade ore beneath the existing facilities.
