Description:
Brazilian passenger railroad company Companhia Brasileira de Trens Urbanos (CBTU) was created in 1984 to build, upgrade and expand the country's passenger rail networks, and is linked to the Cities Ministry. CBTU currently administers train and metro systems in Belo Horizonte, Recife, Natal, João Pessoa and Maceió, and acts as a co-manager in the Fortaleza's metro system development project, together with Companhia Cearense de Transportes Metropolitanos (Metrofor). Additionally, it operates a 218km network, comprising 104 stations, 100 rail cars, and 27 light rail cars, serving 17 municipalities. CBTU is headquartered in Rio de Janeiro.
