Norway's Norsk Hydro is a global supplier of aluminum and aluminum products. Active on five continents, the company has more than 13,000 employees in 50 countries and regional operations in Brazil, Argentina and Mexico. In early 2010, the company acquired Brazilian mining giant Vale's aluminum operations, including aluminum company Albras, alumina refinery Alunorte and alumina plant project Companhia de Alumina do Pará (CAP). Its operations in Brazil also include the Paragominas bauxite mine and a 5% interest in Mineração Rio do Norte (MRN). Alunorte is the world's biggest alumina refinery and Paragominas is the third largest bauxite mine. Its Argentine and Mexican operations are conducted through subsidiary Sapa, a joint venture formed in 2013 with Oslo-based company Orkla, in order to combine their aluminum extrusion operations.
