Sempra Energy is a San Diego-based power holding company which operates in Latin America through Sempra International, one of its four principal operating divisions. The company distributes energy and operates in competitive energy markets in the Americas. It has power distribution operations in Chile (Chilquinta Energía S.A.) and Peru (Luz del Sur S.A.A.). In Mexico's Baja California state, Sempra owns the Costa Azul LNG regasification terminal, various gas pipeline operations, gas distributor Ecogas S.A. de C.V., and the Mexicali thermoelectric generation plant. The company is also developing 78MW of wind generation capacity in the La Rumorosa area as the initial step of a project that aims to ultimately install more than 1GW. Recently, the firm has announced the development of the Port Arthur LNG natural gas liquefaction facility in Port Arthur, Texas, in conjunction with a subsidiary of Woodside Petroleum Ltd. Sempra Energy was created in 1998.
