Mexico's Energía Eólica del Sur S.A.P.I. de C.V. is developing the Eólica del Sur wind farm, previously known as Mareña Renovables. The project will generate 396MW with the installation of 132 wind turbines of 3MW each, distributed in two sites which cover an area of 5,332ha in the municipalities of El Espinal and Juchitán, in Mexico's Oaxaca state. It will supply energy to Fomento Económico Mexicano, S.A.B. de C.V. (Femsa) under the self-supply legal framework. The company was founded in 2013 and has its main office in Juchitán de Zaragoza. The project has suffered delays due to financing problems, community opposition and legal issues.
