Comisión para el Mercado Financiero (CMF) is a decentralized public entity which supervises, regulates and punishes the entities participating in the financial market of (securities and insurances), such as stock corporations, insurance companies, stock market and intermediaries, mutual funds and thir administrators, risk rating agencies, and investment funds; ensuring the proper functioning, development and stability of the financial market, the participation of the market agents, and the compliance with the legal and regulatory bodies which rule them. This entity, based in Santiago de Chile, was established in 1931 as Superintendencia de Sociedades Anónimas, Compañías de Seguros y Bolsas de Comercio; in 1980 it was transformed in the Superintendencia de Valores y Seguros (SVS); and in 2017 became into the CMF. The CMF has signed cooperation agreements with Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Costa rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Mexico, Panama, Paraguay and Peru, among others; and participates in the International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO), in the Ibero-American Securities Market Institute (IIMV), in the International Association of Insurance Supervisors (IAIS), in the Council of Securities Regulators of the Americas (COSRA), and in the Latin American Association of Insurance Supervisors (ASSAL).
