Rio de Janeiro-based holding company Light S.A. owns power generation, transmission, distribution, trading and service assets, and serves individual, commercial and industrial clients in a concession area that comprises 31 municipalities in Brazil with a population of around 10mn. Its generation assets include five hydroelectric plants with a total installed capacity of 855MW: Santa Branca, Ilha dos Pombos, Fontes Novas, Nilo Peçanha, and Pereira Passos. Through its subsidiary, Renova S.A., Light also has stakes in power generation projects, such as small hydropower, solar and wind power plants. Light's subsidiary Light Serviços de Eletricidade S.A. distributes energy, while Light Energia S.A. focuses on study, planning, exploration and construction of power generation and transmission systems. On the other hand, Energia Olímpica S.A. -a joint venture between Light and Furnas Centrais Elétricas S.A.- was created with the purpose of developing the Vila Olímpica substation and two 138 kV underground lines connected to it, for the recently completed Olympic Park in Barra da Tijuca, Rio de Janeiro. Companhia Energética de Minas Gerais (Cemig), Luce Empreendimentos e Participações S.A (LEPSA) and Rio Minas Energia S.A (RME) share the company's control with a 52% stake. In 2015, its consolidated net revenue totaled US$3.24bn.
