Congonhas Minérios S.A.

Company Detail

Description

Brazilian Congonhas Minérios S.A. produces, buys and sells iron ore, specially focused on foreign markets. The company is the result of a strategic alliance between Brazilian steelmaker Companhia Siderúrgica Nacional (CSN) and the JKTC Asian Consortium (JKTC) formed by Itochu Corporation, JFE Steel Corporation; Posco, Ltd.; Kobe Steel, Ltd.; Nisshin Steel Co, Ltd; and China Steel Corp. In 2015, the merger between CSN's mining and logistics divisions and Nacional Minérios S.A. (Namisa) was completed after CSN transferred to the newly created Congonhas Minérios its 60% stake in Namisa and its 8.63% stake in MRS, and JKTC also transferred its 40% in Namisa. As part of the operation, CSN also had to transfer the rights to operate the Tecar port terminal and the Casa de Pedra mine to the Minas Gerais state-based company.
