Description:
Brazil's Mining and Energy Ministry, MME, is composed of four departments: the Oil, Natural Gas, and Biofuels Secretariat; Geology, Mining and Mineral Transformation Secretariat; Electric Power Secretariat; and Planning and Electric Power Development Secretariat. MME is responsible for the oil sector regulator ANP and electric power regulator Aneel. It also participates in the boards of mixed-ownership energy companies Petrobras and Eletrobras. In addition, the ministry runs the mining agency DNPM, which oversees mining production, and geology bureau CPRM. Other agencies run by the MME are Empresa de Pesquisa Energérica (EPE) and Empresa Brasileira de Administração de Petróleo e Gás Natural – Pré-Sal Petróleo S.A. (PPSA). MME was founded in 1960 and its headquarters are based in Brasilia, in the country's federal district.
