Sumitomo Metal Mining Chile Ltda., the Chilean subsidiary of Japan's second biggest copper smelter, Sumitomo Metal Mining Co. Ltd., is involved in the exploration, development, production and sale of non-ferrous metal resources, such as copper, gold and molybdenum. In Chile, the company owns stakes in copper mines Candelaria (20%) and Sierra Gorda (45%). Located in northern Antofagasta region (II), Sierra Gorda is expected to be in operations for the next 20 years, with average annual production of 220,000t copper, 11,000t molybdenum and 2t gold.
