Description:
Telecomunicaciones de México S.A. de C.V. (Telecomm) is a Mexican state-owned rural telecom company. In 2014 the Mexican government transferred the license to install, operate and exploit the country's fiber optic communications network from federal power utility CFE to Telecomm. The company gained access to CFE's fiber optics systems to operate the public telecommunications network. The license transfer is part of a government plan to encourage the expansion of fiber optic coverage to 98% of the population. The company also operates the Mexsat satellite system – which seeks to expand connectivity through programs such as México Conectado – as part of the state's national infrastructure development drive. The Mexsat system will provide internet, telemedicine and distance education services to remote areas of Mexico.
