Banco de Chile, BCI up earnings by 44%, 20.6% in January

Banco de Chile (NYSE: BCH) and BCI increased their earnings in January by 44% and 20.6% respectively compared to the same month 2010, according to financial statements filed on the banks' websites.

Banco de Chile's earnings totaled 43.5bn pesos (US$92.6mn) last month, while BCI reported earnings of 19.6bn pesos.

The loan book at Banco de Chile amounted to 14.2tn pesos at the end of January compared to 12.9tn pesos at the same time last year. BCI saw its loan portfolio increase to 9.7tn pesos from 9tn pesos at end-January, 2010.
