Banks allowed to offer insurance products

Monday, December 5, 2011

Banks in Guatemala will be able to offer insurance products thanks to a resolution from the country's monetary board JM that modifies the current banking law, according to a publication in government gazette Diario de Centro América.

Banks will now be allowed to sell so-called mass market insurance products as long as they comply with local insurance regulations.

Among the insurance policies that banks are expected to offer are car, travel and funerary insurance as well as mechanical assistance and medical attention for school children.
