BNDES sells nearly US$500mn in bonds
Brazil's state-run development banks BNDES raised 1.7bn reais (US$464mn) in short-term bonds in the local market to diversify its funding sources.
The securities, called letras financeiras, will mature in two years.
"The demand from investors surpassed by far the amount issued, with several institutional investors participating in the price formation process. This operation is part of the strategy to develop new funding instruments, in addition to traditional sources of resources to meet the needs of future disbursements," BNDES said.
The operation will also prepare BNDES to gradually be a more active issuer in the local market, the bank added.
