New president named at Banco do Nordeste

Brazil's government has appointed Jurandir Vieira Santiago as president of federally owned Banco do Nordeste do Brasil (BNB), the government said in the country's official gazette.

Vieira Santiago will replace Roberto Smith, who was BNB's president for eight years.

BNB is the largest microlender in Brazil and also plays an important role as development bank for the northeast region.
