Remittance growth beats April record, surges 117% in June

Remittances to Paraguay continued their growing streak this year, surging a record 117% year-on-year in June, beating the 102% record set in April, the latest figures from central bank BCP show.

Paraguayans living abroad sent home US$49.2mn in June, compared to US$22.7mn a year ago. On a monthly comparison, remittances jumped 52.2% over May. Overall for the first half of the year, remittances increased 49.3% to US$195mn.

Spain and the US remained the top two sender countries in the six months, with US$114mn and US$55.9mn, respectively, followed by Argentina in a distant third place, with US$6.57mn, according to BCP figures.
