Remittances continue robust growth trend, up 16.3% in May

Remittances to Guatemala continued their strong performance so far this year, posting 16.3% growth in May compared to the same month in 2010, according to the latest figures from central bank Banco de Guatemala.

Guatemalans abroad sent home US$415mn in the fifth month of the year, compared to US$357mn in May 2010. The figure was also up from April by 11.9%.

So far this year, money sent home by Guatemalans living abroad is up 10.5% to US$1.76bn, central bank figures show.
