Remittances to Nicaragua continue to show strong growth this year, rising 8.11% in February compared with the same month in 2010, according to the latest figures from central bank BCN.

Nicaraguans abroad sent home US$69.3mn during the month, compared with US$64.1mn sent in February 2010. The figure was also up 2.82% from January.

In the first two months of the year, remittances to Nicaragua are up 9.54% to US$137mn. This seems to indicate that remittances have shaken off the 2008-09 global crisis' impact - similar to trends seen in other countries in the region.
