Remittances down 6% in H1

Some US$60mn was sent to Uruguay by workers abroad during the first half of the year, dropping 6% compared to 1H10, according to the latest figures from central bank BCU. Since 2006, remittances have been lower during the first half of the year and have shown better numbers in the second half, the BCU report noted. Spain, the US and Argentina are the three main sender countries for remittances to Uruguay, together accounting for 71% of the total.
