Remittances up 1.8% year-on-year in August

El Salvador received a total of US$307mn in remittances during August, a 1.8% increase compared to the same month in 2010 and 6.9% higher than the July figure, a press release from central bank BCR shows.

Last month's remittances proved to be the highest for August in three years. For January-August, remittances expanded 4.8% compared to the year-ago period, to US$2.42bn, according to BCR figures.
