The number of ATM robberies in Chile has soared this year, and banks and the government are planning new measures to combat the growing problem, local media reported.
ATM robberies jumped by 119% between January 1 and June 7 this year, compared to the same period last year.
The most common method is stealing the whole machine using a chain and a car.
The new measures to combat the wave of ATM robberies include more widespread use of ink-based solutions that destroys bills when a machine is stolen, as well as longer jail sentences for this type of crime.
