Brief: Itaipu 2017 output hits 75TWh
The Itaipu hydroelectric plant on the Brazil-Paraguay border has already delivered its minimum 2017 contract requirement of 75TWh.
In a statement, operator Itaipu Binacional said it passed the milestone on October 19.
Itaipu supplies around 75% of Paraguay's electricity, while Brazil's grid share from the plant is about 17%, according to government figures.
In 2016, the facility produced a world record 103.1TWh of electricity, beating the previous calendar year benchmark of 98.8TWh set by China Three Gorges in 2014.
