Concessionaire launches tender for Buenos Aires access roads
Argentine road concessionaire Ausol, who operates the northern access road network of capital Buenos Aires, launched a tender to widen a 6km section of the Tigre branch road.
The firm said the budget will be revealed by the bid opening date, which is scheduled for February 8, but state news agency Télam reported that the work will require 730mn pesos (US$14mn).
The project involves adding two new lanes to the section, bringing the total to six, of the Tigre branch road between the junction with Uruguay avenue and the end of the road in the Ciudad de Tigre district, as well as improving all intersections on the stretch, bidding documents show.
Ausol said population growth has increased traffic congestion in the north of Buenos Aires, especially during weekends.
The bidding documents can be seen here, in Spanish.
In 2017, Ausol's owner, Spain's Abertis, signed an agreement with Argentina's transport ministry to extend its concession contract for the northern access road network until 2030. In exchange, the concessionaire agreed to invest US$430mn to improve the network.
The transport ministry also signed a similar agreement with fellow Abertis subsidiary GCO, which operates the city's western access network, which entailing US$250mn in investment.
GCO began widening the western network earlier in the week, the contract for which was awarded to Argentine firm Dycasa.
