Japan to bankroll small scale hydro

The Japanese government will provide US$10.4mn to build three small-scale hydro plants in the Guatemalan communities of Las Conchas (94kV), Seasir (59kV) and Jolom Ijix (98kV) in Alta Verapaz department.

Guatemala will provide US$1.13mn for the projects which will benefit 1,886 families in 22 communities, the energy and mines ministry said in a statement.

Construction will take 18 months after which Japan will provide technical assistance during three years.
