Argentina approves 1.3GW hydro feasibility study
Argentina's energy and environment ministries issued a joint resolution approving a supreme court-ordered environmental feasibility study for the Kirchner and Cepernic hydroelectric dams planned for the Santa Cruz river.
The court ordered the suspension of major works on the dams last December, pending the completion of a new study and a public hearing on the project.
The study will now be sent to congress for final approval ahead of the public hearing, which is expected to occur later this month.
The dams will have combined installed capacity of 1.3GW. The contract to build them was awarded to consortium China Gezhouba Group-Electroingeniería-Hidrocuyo under Argentina's previous government.
