Argentina, Paraguay launch US$610mn dam expansion tenders

The EBY operator of the Yacyretá hydroelectric dam on the Argentina-Paraguay border officially launched two tenders for a US$610mn project to expand the dam's Aña Cua arm.

Works entail the installation of three 92MW Kaplan turbines, as well as three 100MVA generators. As a result of the project, Yacyretá's annual electricity output will increase by 1,700GWh, or 8.8%, and its installed capacity will expand by 9%.

Interested parties have until January 16 to submit offers for the civil works, and until January 30 to submit offers for the design, fabrication, and installation of electromechanical equipment.

EBY is a joint-venture between the governments of Argentina and Paraguay created to operate Yacyretá, which is located on the Paraná river.
