Binational hydroelectric dam watch
Itaipu Binacional, which operates the 14GW Itaipu hydro plant (pictured) on the Brazil-Paraguay border, said that its maintenance and informatics superintendencies kicked off a project to modernize the dam's maintenance monitoring system (SAM).
SAM is part of the plant's operation and maintenance system implemented in 1984.
The operator said that the revamped SAM is due ready before the start of a project to update Itaipu's technology.

Paraguay's senate approved diplomatic notes signed with Argentina regarding debt related to the 3.2GW Yacyretá hydroelectric dam on the countries' borders, and improved terms for Paraguay.
In a statement, the legislative body said that approval will help advance the expansion and modernization of the power generation complex.
