Argentine province Mendoza's infrastructure and energy minister Rolando Baldasso announced that consortium José Cartellone Construcciones Civiles-Constructora OAS was pre-awarded the Los Blancos hydro contract.
The group has 60 days to demonstrate it has required financing to secure the definitive contract, the provincial government said in a statement.
BNamericas reported previously that three consortiums submitted proposals for the 485MW project, with economic offers ranging upward of US$1bn.
In related news, planning minister Julio De Vido met with Chinese companies Sinohydro and China Gezhouba Group International Engineering as part of a road show in the Asian country to present 1.74GW hydro project Néstor Kirchner-Jorge Cepernic.
The official also met with Sino-Wind Energy that is developing a 200MW wind project in Argentina, according to a ministry release.
The visit follows a meeting in recent weeks in Buenos Aires between De Vido and Hyundai Engineering and Construction to discuss the mega hydro project.
