Chile announces extended daylight saving to conserve energy

Bnamericas
For the third consecutive year Chile will adopt an extended daylight saving time schedule to conserve power. The adoption of daylight saving in 2012 reduced daily energy consumption on Chile's central SIC grid by 0.6%, or 750-800MWh/d. During the extended daylight saving months last year (March, April, September and October) 39GWh was saved on the SIC grid. Savings during September and October represented 83% of this figure. In 2013, shortened standard time will last from April 27 until September 7.
