Chile approves 90MW solar project
Environmental authorities in Chile's Atacama region (III) approved the environmental impact assessment for the US$169mn, 90MW Piedra Colgada solar photovoltaic park.
Planned by local firm Central Los Aromos, Piedra Colgada will feed into the country's central SIC power grid.
Chile's installed solar PV capacity stands at 1,217MW, more than double the 537MW in operation at this time a year ago, according to state renewable energies center Cifes.
Chile's environmental evaluation service SEA approved in May 11 energy projects requiring US$1.37bn in investment.
INTERCONNECTION STUDY
In related news, consultancy Estudios Eléctricos Chile will carry out a study analyzing the operational patterns of Chile's two main power grids, which will soon be connected.
The study will allow northern grid operator CDEC-SING and central grid operator CDEC-SIC to be better prepared for the interconnection, the latter said in a statement.
