Developer pulls US$400mn Chile thermo project
Plans to install a large-scale thermoelectric plant in southern Chile's Biobío region that would cost an estimated US$400mn have come to a halt.
Information from the country's environmental evaluation service SEA shows that SEA's Biobío office has accepted a "desist" request from Global Power Generation (GPG) Chile for the 600MW Tierra Noble natural gas-fired project.
The company, part of the Naturgy group, did not immediately respond to a request for comment on why the decision was taken.
In March 2017, Biobío's SEA had partially accepted a request from GPG Chile to extend the permitting deadline because of the additional time needed to gather information. The government agency gave the developer until this July 24 instead of the requested December 3, 2018.
GPG Chile, which is also developing the Cabo Leones II wind farm and Inca de Varas I and II solar complex in the country, originally filed Tierra Noble with the SEA in May 2016.
