IN BRIEF: Ecuador reinforces grid
Ecuador's state power transmission company Transelectric launched official operations of the Chorrillos substation as part of the country's 500kV transmission project.
The US$80mn station is northeast of port city Guayaquil and will dispatch electricity from hydroelectric plants such as Coca Codo Sinclair (1.5GW) and Sopladora (487MW).
Meanwhile, state generator Hidroagoyán opened a turbine research and recovery center (CIRT) which aims to reduce the time and cost of repairing hydroelectric turbines.
